| Hempnall 0 Docking Devils 2 - 29/11/08 After a very long journey of 50 miles we finally arrived at Hempnall, weather better than last week but the pitch a little heavy and sticky. Today's first half captain was Vic and second half captain was Evie. Hempnall kicked off and forced an early corner.Learning from our mistakes in previous games we acted decisively and cleared our lines straight away.Vic was doing a great job in the centre of midfield and picked out a couple of long through balls to Chloe early on.The story of the first half was constant Docking pressure, corner after corner and save after save from their keeper.Georgie was rarely called into action because Megan and Evie were mopping up all the attacks before they threatened our goal.Rhi and Emily were linking up well in midfield and with Ali away today they both staked a solid claim on being in the starting line up. Our breakthrough came midway through the first half, when Chloe was brought down on the edge of the box.Once again Evie the deadball specialist stepped up and fired an accurate ball towards goal,a defender attempted a block but only managed to deflect it past her keeper and into the back of the net.Several half chances fell to Chloe on her weaker left side and Emily and Rhi came within a whisker of opening their accounts narrowly missing out when their attempts rebounded off the crossbar. 1 .0 At half time and although we enjoyed most of the possession and 90% of attempts on goal in the first half,we always felt we needed an early goal or two to put the game beyond a battling Hempnall team.Carrie was relieved of her defensive duties and was told to make runs down the flank and swing some crosses in.Emily was given the unfamiliar role of centre midfield and Vic and Rhi shared right mid with good effect.Hempnall swopped keepers in the second half and she was soon under fire from Carrie ,Chloe and Rhi all forcing some excellent saves from her. Our second goal came from a long ball from Evie upto Chloe10 metres inside their half.Chloe picked out Carrie's run with a great ball to run onto,Carrie was free and cooly tucked the ball into the Hempnall goal in a one v one with the keeper. This gave us a bit of breathing space, but the opposition still managed to give the girls a game right upto the final whistle.Again well done to both teams for good play on a difficult pitch. Match report by Iain Kissock Docking Devils 1 North Walsham Angels 2 - 22/11/08 Rough weather conditions were the order of the day, bitterly cold, snow, sleet, hail and wind !!! Georgie was our first half captain and it was brilliant to hear her shouting instructions to her defence.Keep it up every game please Georgie! With kick off a little late due to Iain and Kevin trying to put up a gazebo shelter for the parents and subs, and failing due to the blustery conditions, the Angels coach was getting flustered because the ref hadn't turned up.Iain took the whistle and left the coaching to Lesley. With a bare minimum of seven players today we were always going to be up against it with a full strength high flying Walsham team in a determined mood [no doubt fired up by the coach].The Angels won the toss and took the wind advantage in the first half.It was hard work for the Devils to break through today, with a couple of key players missing but they battled extremely hard against all the odds and almost took the lead through a great clearance from Vic helped on by Rhi and blasted inches wide from Chloe. Walsham did finally break the deadlock, which only inspired the Devils into action.Deservedly we leveled the match with five minutes to half time.A well directed goal kick from Evie found Ali in space,a clever dummy, and Ali was free to run at the Angels defence, and with two defenders converging on her she unloaded a great ball for Chloe to run on to.Chloe struck the ball with some venom, which the keeper could only parry, and first to the rebound was Chloe to smash the ball over the line and into the net. The weather was getting progressively worse and a couple of our players were really struggling. A quick turn around at half time and all to play for. This is a game that could go either way,Huge credit goes to both teams for battling on in adverse weather conditions.Walsham scrambled the winner just before the weather finally beat us.Finishing 10 minutes early but I think everyone was happy to get inside and warm up. Match report by Iain Kissock Taverham Cubs 0 Docking Devils 4 - 15/11/08 We finally arrived at the field after a little detour, but the girls were buzzing today and were really looking forward to today's challenge. With a full squad today the girls are beginning to understand that competition for places is keen and poor performances could mean losing your starting place in the team. The armband went to Alison for the first half, and she lead the team well with a very cool performance, always composed on the ball and always looking for a team mate to pass to. We pressed hard and must have forced half a dozen corners in the first 10 minutes. The cubs keeper was awesome, totally fearless and saved absolutely everything we chucked at her! At the break we made a couple more subs to freshen things up,and it wasn't long before we forced a free kick just outside their box, with Ali being pushed of the ball.Up steps our cool dead ball specialist Evie and majestically sidefoots the ball into the top right of the Cubs net.Now with the keeper finally beaten, could we go on to capitalize this advantage? Answer an emphatic YES! Neat interplay between Ali and Emily put Chloe in on goal, not on her favoured side but a quickly taken shot with her left foot caught the keeper off balance and the ball slotted into the corner of the goal. The Cubs defended bravely, but the Devils had a firm grip on the game which they were not going to let go of. Georgie,Megan and Evie were rarely called into action in the last 20 minutes with Vic leading the charge from the midfield.Their defence were getting tired and Chloe rounded off a fine hattrick with a 15 metre power drive that sent the away fans home with happy. The "Bundle"celebrations at the end of the game reflected the team spirit today, and were in no way intended to belittle the Cubs brave display .Well done to both teams for playing a very entertaining game of football. Match report by Iain Kissock Docking Devils 0 Norwich City Canaries 5 - 08/11/08 Carrie took the captain's armband for the first half and did a great job,it was good for the team to hear Carrie shouting out instructions,an intelligent player but often a little quiet on the football pitch. It was one of those days when things were just not happening for us but not to take anything away from the Canaries, everything was falling nicely for them. Their big striker tested out Georgie with a couple of long range efforts and with the wind behind her shots Georgie did well to parry and deflect her efforts away.Eventually they broke through our defences and and were 2 . 0 up after 15 minutes. We had a reasonable spell straight after that with Chloe and Ali coming close but were denied by good keeping from the Canaries goaly. We were looking confident and dangerous just before the break, when their striker forced a couple of quick corners and unbelievably scored from both with a couple of freaky deflections. Half time and at 4.0 down we were certainly facing an uphill battle. We gave Chloe the armband for the second half with instructions to the girls to play with more "fire in the belly" and to start fresh at 0 .0 and go out and try and win the second half. The girls upped the tempo and started to push back the strong Norwich midfield further and further into their own half. Their keeper was having a blinder and stopped everything we could throw at her.Almost on the final whistle they broke quickly from a long throw and convered cooly to finish the game 5 .0 victors.
